The ‘why’ of Upfront Pay.

You know the story. You do a job, you don’t get paid. You follow it up, you get excuses… You spend your evenings quoting, invoicing, and chasing people for money that should have been in your pocket weeks (or months) ago!

You know the stress of managing cash flow, wondering if they’ll ever pay, wondering what you can even do about it if they don’t. You’ve held up your end of the bargain, have done some quality work, and are let down with excuses of why they can’t pay yet.

Trust once laid at the foundations of the trade industry, where people could take other people at face value, knowing that they would be paid for the works that they had completed.

But times have changed… ‘The Cheque’s in the mail’ hasn’t cut it for years, so why in the day of multiple instant-money-transfer options, are people more late in paying their invoices? Too many people are taking advantage of the lack of governance in the construction industry. There’s no escaping the fact that some people just won’t pay on time (if at all!) unless you make them pay upfront. But you can’t do that, right?… wrong! Let me introduce you to Upfront Pay.

With Upfront Pay you can legally, and legitimately ask for payment upfront, because we hold the funds in trust until the work is done! Finally, there’s a way for tradies to be sure they’re not completing work for free, or that they’ll be spending the next six months chasing pay for a job they did. Upfront Pay is a new payment system, similar to the QBCC’s ‘Project Trust Accounts’. But unlike the QBCC however, our service is accessible by anyone, for any size job, not just million dollar projects. And guess what? It’s free to use!

Upfront Pay exists because a Sunshine Coast tradie was tired of not being paid, and hearing about his friends not being paid for work they’d done, so he decided to do something about it.

Cam Hodges is the founder and CEO of Upfront Pay. He is a concreting contractor and company owner, and has a degree in Criminal Justice. Seeing the criminal and unjust issue of non-payment and late-payment in the construction industry, along with the lack of avenues to actually recoup lost money, spurred him on in the endeavour to find a fair solution for service providers and their customers.

Upfront Pay gives Tradies confidence that they’ll get paid when the job’s done. Our service not only helps tradies though, it’s a benefit to your customers as well! They can feel assured that the work will get done and they aren’t going to lose their deposit to a tradie who never shows up. They can also feel confident that they’ve locked in a reputable tradie, because unscrupulous ones don’t use our service.
